Losing Connection

Lately, we've been having problems with one of our Alpha computers. Whenever you telnet or rlogin in to it... usually it will do fine but then suddenly you will get this message:

rlogin: read: Connection reset by peer. rlogin: connection closed.

It's very random. It then takes some time or a restarting the network services to get it to come back. You can still ping the server during this time but you can not log into it. Also, you can not go telnet from it to any place else, but you can ping other computers from it as well so the network connection appears to be there and steady. This problem just started happening with no prompting at all. We made no changes to any network settings and now we can't make it stop. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
