Logon to Windows network from linux ...not SAMBA!

To use internet access at work we logon with a username and password that gets authenticated at a central Windows place of some kind. You can get internet access without this.

1) How do I logon to this from linux?
2) What is this Windows auth server called? (helps me google for an answer) (is it called Active Directory?)

Oh, and a GUI for helping this process would be useful as locations change from time to time.

If your network uses Active Directory, then your distro may have a config setting to use AD as the authentication source. Of course, a Domain Administrator will need to join your host to the domain.

You should mention which distro you are using. Your distro's documentation should have instructions on how change the authentication source.
