Yep setup telnet on your Windows 2000 system.

or

Setup http or https on your Windows 2000 system.

or

Install SAMBA on your LINUX system and mount the drives

You will need to install Samba; if not already installed by default.

As root,

chmod u+s smbmnt
chmod u+s smbumount

This is not a very good idea from the security point of view ... but this will help a regular user to use smbmount and smbumount to mount and unmount Win2K shares.

smbmount //Win2KSvr/share smbshare -o username yourid

you should have the folder smbshare created in the user home directory.

If you want to share your local drive on the net, you will require thw samba server component too.

configuration is simple

workgroup=win2kdomain
security=server
password server=win2kDC
