Question Linux router (DHCP, DNS) + Win XP

I have a small home net.
Cable--->modem-->linux suse 9.2-->switch-->win xp
linux box runs as a router (iptables masq)
Also runs DHCP and DNS.
Everything works fine. But about every 3-4 hours I think, connection fails.
But it fail not completely. ICQ and radio keep working just fine, but web pages wont open. As I suspect it cannot resolve the address.

The cure: go to status page of the lan connection in winxp and hit repair, and it renews the IP and everything works fine again until next time.

Where to look?

Thanks,
Andrew

just curious....about how long is your IP lease from your dhcpd server?

What DNS servers are you XP machine using?

When it drops can u get online from the linux machine? Can you ping IP addresses?

dhcpd.conf

option domain-name "homa";
option domain-name-servers server.homa, 192.168.1.3;
option routers 192.168.1.3;
default-lease-time 14400;
ddns-update-style none;
subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
option broadcast-address 192.168.1.255;
range 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.15;
default-lease-time 14400;
max-lease-time 72800;
}

like I said, icq and online radio keep working, so ip connection itself is fine, but I haven't try to check if linux box can get online, though. I will, but I think it will either not have a problem at all, or will have the same problem.

And to clarify again: linux box is the router for my network, so if radio keeps going, so I am assuming, that linux box will also be able to get online

Your lease time is 4 hours. That's may indicate somerhing right there.

I'm also thinking that your linux box doesn't have the same problem. However, if it does then the prob may lie with your ISP.

thanks for a reply, but I think no matter how long is the lease time, clients should try to renew it after a half time of the lease has passed. Correct me if I am wrong... So it is either linux not letting client to renew the address or client "forgets" to renew it (which is unlikely, although, Zone Alarm firewall is running on XP with XP firewall turned off).
What should I check in linux to make sure, that linux behaves properly?

It just happened again and I tried to ping my server, and it worked. then i tried to do nslookup on my win host, and it said unknown server and could not resolve any names. I sshed to my linux box and did the same on my linux box. Everything is fine there.
resolv.conf
nameservers 127.0.0.1
nameservers 24.x.x.x
nameservers 24.x.x.x

Maybe it has to do something with DDNS? On other hand, why it works just fine after renew button is clicked in windows?
