Linux Router Appliance

Hello!

I am searching for a cheap ( not more than 600$ ) Linux iptables based router / firewall appliance.

Thinks like fli4l and other Disk / CD / USB based routers are not the sollution I search.

I really need an appliance with min. 2 NICs and an ssh access so I can fix the Iptables-scripts.

Does anybody have an idea ?

Maybe something like:
http://www.netgear.de/Produkte/Router/Firewall/FVS114/

But with ssh access and iptables

is there a reason why "a low power PC with 2 NICs" (and an appropriate Linux/BSD install) isn't the answer to this question?

as

- this router`s have to be installed in one 19" rack ( beside some Dl360+Dl380 Servers )
- I need about 5 of them
- I already use pc`s which need to much space & power
- I would like to have an appliance with as less moving parts as possible
- I do not like to buy 5 Pc Systems for about 500$ p.p.
- I want 5 100% identic systems so they can replace each other
- I think that such a system could be cheaper than a pc

- Build a server with iptables on it, for your firewall. Do a RAID-1 configuration at build time, then break the mirror when you're done. You've now got a second disk, with your working configs on it, if the first one fails.
- Buy decent routers/switches if you're doing anything worthwhile. You get what you pay for.

just to complete it

We finally use Linksys WRT Routers with openWRT which works 100% perfectly.
