Would you guys know how to make a Linux accessible from Windows? I can ping the Linux box but I cannot access it any other way. I installed web server Apache but I can get the web page to come up in my browser on Windows.
Would anyone know what needs to be done? It’s the RedHat Linux v.7.1.
I already tried so many things but no luck.
Yes, I tried its IP and I created another IP and I can ping the Linux from Windows via each IP address. But I cannot bring up on Windows the web page that I can bring up on Linux.
I do not have any firewalls on either machine.
Is there a way how I can access the Linux box from Windows to see if I have established connection then just pinging the machines?
Thanks,
george
if apache is runing on linux box then http://xx.xxx.xx.xx ,
replace xx.xx.xx.xx with the ip of linux box if definty shows you the apache web server startup page.
ps -ef | grep httpd <--- to check apache is running
if you want to access the linux box by logged in then use Putty, PuTTy is a ssh client for windows.
hmm as you said ping is working right?
did you checked for any firewall rules blocking ssh on linux box?
iptables -L -nvx
okay i assume apache is running on linux box, and I duno why you can't access if from wndowz box, I doubt about any iptables rules blocking port 80 request from linux box try to change the policies for INPUT, OUTPUT, FORWARD to ACCEPT if it is DROP atm.
agian "iptables -L " will show you policies.
Would you say, what way are these computers connected for networking?
These two machines are connected via a router that is connected to the broadband modem.
Should they be connected together with a hub that is then connected to the router and to the modem?
I modified the router settings to use DNS but then I could not connect to the Internet.
I checked the tables and most of it fails. The last message is: “Perhaps iptables or your tables needs to be upgraded.”
So, I guess I need to figure out what needs to be upgraded.
