linkys router - administration

greetings,

dear friends, this router provides wireless internet in 5 PCs network, the problem is, some guys have been downloading huge video files and others havent, these ones have complained that their internet speed has slowed a lot.

Any idea on how to fix this?

How to I make the router set a fixed speed for every one of the users? It is just not fair. This is an 1 MB/s internet, I need everybody (5 people) to get 200 kb/s ONLY.

Thank you

How to set a fixed speed - should be said in the manual. If not then it can't be done with your router.

Do you have only the Linksys router between clients and Internet, or do you also have a Linux box between router and Internet?

In the latter case it could be done easily, check out the Advanced Routing & Traffic Control Howto.

If you have only the router you might be able to replace the firmware (I think it's only possible on the Linux-based model -- has an 'L' in its model name somewhere) in order to be able to fumble around yourself.
(Just getting some cheap Linux box to put behind the router would probably be much simpler)
