Unhappy linksys won't connect

I have the linksys BEFSR41 on this computer I am writing from. I've been trying to connect it to another computer in another room. For some strange reason it will not connect. It states that there is no internet connection when this is not the occassion according to the first computer. Yes I am going crazy ! What could be the problem?

Your Linksys is connected to the internet (either DSL or dial up or cable)? And you're connecting both "this" and your other computer directly to one of the ports 1-4 (not the syslink one -- that's for connecting a router)?

Ought to work; if not, you either have a "flipped" cable from your other computer to the router and you need the opposite or you need to set the gateway address. You should be able to ping the router (and your working computer) from the other one; if your router is at the default settings, you should be able to ping 192.168.1.1 (which is the router) or whatever you've set it to. When you're connected properly, the lights will be on for the port you plugged into -- check your internet settings on the other box.

Cool

Are YOU connecting with a router? IF Yes, then see here...http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowT...httpdWebserver For using Ethernet PCI Cards, try "lspci", "lsusb", and "lsmod" for details. Try "ifconfig -a" and "ifconfig" for status with the connections. Try "route -n" and "route" and "netstat -nr", "netstat -r" for trafficking. Try "hw info --netcard" and "/usr/sbin/hwinfo --netcard" for Ethernet Card data. "ethtool" and "miitool" for configuration. "nmap" will trace what/where when YOU need to. "dig" and "sudo/sbin/lspci -v" are story tellers. These are "shell scripts". Please use them in a terminal. Sharing this information could enable YOU to resolve hurdles down the road. Caution: A) Back up files before using "root" as a "user". B) It is not neccessary to show passwords here in these Forums. We're YOUR friends, however... the other guys know how to read.
