Angry linksys printserver and SUSE 9.3

O.K. I'm ready to throw something! I've got the following setup:
One computer running WXP, one computer running SUSE 9.3, one linksys PSUS4 printserver connected to a HP PSC750. All of the devices are connected to each other (and the outside world) through a motorola WR850G router. I've managed to get samba and vnc working so I can access the SUSE box from windows. Trying to get printing working (from suse) is another matter. I've tried setting up the printer as a "direct to network printer" and everything goes fine until I go to "test". Nothing prints and the linksys box KILLS the entire network!!! NO connection to the other boxes or the outside world. I have to power down the printserver in order to restore the network. (Assume for the sake of argument that I'm a newbie! ) I've gotten the samba and vnc to work with the help of a friend at work, but he's at a loss to explain this one!!

I don't know the linksys device but I'm guessing it's just emulating the standard unix lpd interface, feeding raw input directly to the printer. On the evidence, I'd guess the problem may be with the printer driver, since this has a much more complicated job.

Can you print with the printer directly attached to the computer? Then you should be able to modify the config to send the output to the queue on the printserver instead of the local USB port. If it still fails at least you have a better idea where the problem is.

Another thing you can do is turn up debugging to the max in the cups interface, and check the log files in /var/log/cups for interesting error messages.
