Ldap Replication Through Nat
 

Hi everyone,

Here's the low down...

We are setting up LDAP Replication between two LDAP Servers through a fast connection.

Both LDAP Servers are behind routers and nat and I have been told this could pose problems.

I have suggested that we try to use Port forwarding etc but the company who are involved to do the replication says that it can not run through nat because the translation of the packets through the nat.

I know this is similar to VPN which will not authorise because of the change to the packet... however I am not very clear on LDAP.

The company says that the LDAP server will try to reply to the original Ip, being the local IP on the other network...

Any ideas?? I cant see how it would be a problem??

don't think this should be a prob. It's just a port to port replication. SLurpd on master replicates by reading a log file to the slave's port 389. If you plan to use secure port ldaps or stattls make sure then name matches exactly as in certificate.

But unless you've tried the NAT thing you won't know.

Yeah I think we are getting there with it... the company involved NOW mentions oh we need these ports open too (something I would have liked to have known before)

We are getting an error because it cant connect to the netbios port 137... why would it be trying to get in through 137??
