Question LDAP authentication + Redhat Linux

I want to clarify one concept of LDAP. We have one LDAP server on which we have employees details. Like Emp. No, Location, mail -ID etc. , we are planning to add username and passwd on it.

Following is the query.

Say i have one separate linux box and i want all the users of this Linux box, to get authenticate thru this Ldap server.

a. When users gets authenticated, ? do i have to create home directories on this linux box.

b.Can sendmail be used to query the LDAP datbase and send mails.

Pl. reply.
