Layer 2 switch


Can both token ring and ethernet be connected to same switch? If we can connect so, how can a switch able to differentiate them.

Yes, but with a serious limitation; protocols which embed layer 2 addreses such as ARP or IPv6 neighbour discovery (which are required for IP) will not work without specific support, and IPv6 SEND will be broken. Check the specification of the switch as support varies.

Any suitable switch will have seperate Token Ring and Ethernet ports.
