laptop-net not configuring correctly

Hi

I have a Fujitsu P-1110 laptop runnng Sarge, I installed laptop-net to switch between the static office IP and DCHP for home/travel. Configuration using /etc/network/interfaces works great. However, since laptop-net is installed ,eth0 is dead. I made a schemes file per the laptop-net instructions and can switch configurations, but the eth0 itself is still not responding.

Any suggestions?

thanks

What do you mean by "dead"?

Hi,

I should have been more specific. I can ping local loopback OK but any accesses outside the machine are not accessable. Example:

ping ww.xx.yy.zz (my colleague's machine) = ping: sendto: Network is unreachable

If I uninstall laptop-net, eth0 follows the /etc/network/interfaces configuration and all is well.

One thing I did not do is create a custom profile, as the docs say a default one is created.

Suggestions?

Does ifconfig -a show eth0? Did you set the module in /etc/default/laptop-net?

Hi,

Yes, eth0 is shown if I do a ifconfig -a. I did create a scheme in /etc/defaults per the docs and I can switch between the 2 diferent profiles I have created (office, dhcp). I also created a profile set by making folders for the profiles (/etc/laptop-net/profiles/office and /etc/laptop-net/profiles/dhcp) each with a patterns file containing *.*.*.* for dhcp and ww.xx.yy.* for the static office configuration. I don't think I need any of the other profile scripts, as I am not doing anything fancy.

Still not working. ping, email, and mozilla are all responding with "cannot connect..."

So after you switch profiles, eth0 has the correct IP information but you still can't ping anything?

Yeah, I cannnot ping out. Here is the relevant part of my scheme file vs. ifconfig -a:

schemes:
MODULE_NAME= "8139too"
MII_SUPPORTED="yes"

case $SCHEME in
office)
ADDRESS=ww.xx.yy.zz
NETMASK=255.255.0.0
NETWORK=ww.xx.yy.0
GATEWAY=xx.yy.aa.bb
DOMAIN=mydomain.net
SEARCH=mydomain.net
NAMESERVERS="cc.dd.ee.ff gg.hh.ii.jj"

::
esac

ifconfig -a
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:E0:00:AC:5D:E8
UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

continuation of ifconfig -a (hit wrong button...)

RX Packets:32880 errors:0 droped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX Packets:32880 errors:0 droped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
...

I do not see the configuration from the scheme though (should I?) Hmmm....
