LAN/WAN IP address and http to virtual server behind DSL modem

Hi,

I've set up a virtual host on my linux redhat 8 OS. It uses DNS, and that works fine. I can dig it, ping it, telnet it, ftp it, and http it. But this only works when I'm doing it on y Linux OS. This computer is part of a network behind a DSL modem, and the other computers in my network cannot ftp/telnet/http it, even if I use the LAN IP address, it doesn't work.

Furthermore, I cannot http to it over the internet, using my WAN IP address, even not on my Linux machine. It only works with my Lan IP address.

Can anybody help me configure the network so I can http it from outside my network (or even on my other computers within my network)? I don't have a static IP address, but I take note of it and use it before it changes.

Thanks,

E-Rick

You should sort out LAN connections first
maybe there's a firewall blocking these connections?

Hi, thanks for your quick response!

I turned off Zone Alarm on the windows client that I was using to try to http/ftp to my Linux server.
Unless there is a firewall on Linux that has been set up automatically by RedHat 8?
I can ping the Linux box without any problem (192.168.1.254)

Cheers,

Got it, it works now! I looked at the services, and saw that there was a service called IPTABLES which seems to be a firewall (sorry don't know about this)... I disabled it for now, will do some reading to maybe config and use it.

The WAN connection also works now!

Thanks for your suggestion!
