LAN setup help me pls

ok i finally got mandrake 6 to dual boot. I am on a all windows network as a workstation. I would like to have linux be able to reach the internet from this network.

protocals used are tcp/ip and netbeui.
i have my choice of dhcp or static ip (i have 2 subnets)

can this be done?

if so how do I config the nic card(3c905b-tx)3com card.

I deferred the option to install nic card at install time, so ill need to install it with linux on system already.
I can use the X gui by the way.

I have just been through this though on redhat 7.2.
how i did it (hope mandrake gnome options are similar to redhat).
click on Start ->then Program->System->Network Configuration (this can also be executed typing "neat" on shell prompt, u need to be root.)

go through all tabs "Hardware", "Devices", "Hosts", "DNS".

get all network information (like default gateway, DNS servers, IP address, domain name from windows prior to booting from linux.)

there are some other threads which helped me go through this (all of them related to redhat, but still be helpful to you too).
like "Redhat 7.2 doesn recognize my nic card" and few others in case your OS is not able to recognize card.

you said you installed mandrake 6, is that right? if it is I think you need to get into the present mandrake is now into 8.x. anyways I dont mandrake 6 has that much hardware conpatability. you need to install a driver for your card and then try to configure it.

http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/linux.htm

you can find the driver for your card at this address.

and once you install it then you can use network configuration ( iam not sure if it is available in 6 ) to configure the card

good luck
