lan problem..there is internet but computers cannot see each other
I have my Linux system connected with a cable to a wireless router..in this router 2 more computers using windowz are wireless connected to it..We all have internet access..the problem is that i cannot see none of the computers..+ the two windowz computer cannot see each other..
the question is: do i have to configure the router properly, in order to see the others computers? is there any other way? how i can see the whole network? where should i look for? any help plz (this is my first time to set up a lan so i am newbbie) thanx in advance |
try not using network neighborhood --
do: start->run \\192.168.0.1 -- where it is \\[ip of a PC on your network] that get you there? you can also start->run cmd ping 192.168.0.1 --to verify path to host -- i assume windows xp/2000/nt, if not, use 'command' in place of 'cmd' |
still nothing..its like there is no network..i can only connect through a web browser to the router with the ip 192.168.1.1..and the 2 windowz computer can do the same..but we cannot see each other..
how can i sniff the network? |
In windows, use the "ipconfig" command. This will give you ip address information for the machine.
In linux, use "ifconfig". Can your systems ping one another? I know this has already been asked, but it is a good indicator. Are the Windows boxes all in the same workgroup? Sometimes it takes a little while for the windows machines to notice each other and show up in network neighborhood. If all else fails, post the "ipconfig" and "ifconfig" information here. |
