Red face LAN -- Linux, Windows XP Home and Samba

Hi,
I am new to Linux and I am trying to connect my WIndows XP with my Linux maxhine through a router and I ahve encountered some problems.
1) Both the XP and LInux can access the interent but when I try to ping the XP from my Linux I am unable to do so. When I ping the Linux from the XP it works fine. I do not know why I am unable to ping for my Linux to the XP. (NB. I can ping to the router from both Linux and XP ok).
2) Below is the smb.conf file which is my Samba Configuration settings.
# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = MSHOME
netbios name = ERITREA
server string = Samba Server

password server = None
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n *ReType*new*UNIX*password* %n\n *passwd:*all*authentication*tokens*updated*successfully*
unix password sync = Yes
log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log
max log size = 50
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192

idmap uid = 16777216-33554431
idmap gid = 16777216-33554431

browseable = No

[tmp]

Please tell me what I should do. I want to be able to share folders/files and printers beteren the Linux and XP.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

1) Is Windows XP Home's software firewall turned on? If so, it may be blocking ping.

2) For starters, is the samba daemon running? If so, are you having troubles with getting samba running or are you not sure where to start? If the latter is the case, the Samba FAQ (http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/FAQ/ among other places) is a good place.

Good luck!
