LAN connection is not active

Hi All,

First time I installed Fedora 12 and I am new to Linux OS completely. The LAN (ethernet) is coming by default and it's status is inactive. When I click on icon, it tries to connect and then shows status still as inactive. Where as my internet works in Win XP. What do I do for making it active.

Second, when I try to install xDSL package for my BSNL broadband, the package is not available. Where do I get this package?

Hi.

If you completely new to Linux, I strongly suggest to read about Linux networking from windows.
Because your LAN is not "not active" - it is not configured, and you have to understand how to do it.
Linux is not simple yet, unfortunately.

I don't use Fedora, or the desktop it comes with, but usually, in that sort of environment, if you click on the icon with the right mouse button you will be presented with a menu and/or a dialog (wizard?) which you can use to configure the network.

Is xDSL the software that you would install on your windows machine to use the router? If so, then you don't need it. Fedora already has the required software preinstalled.
