i have a SuSE box and a Win XP box in my LAN. when the firewall on the SuSE box is running, i get no connection to the windows workgroup....so....what ports do i need to open up in the fw??

Windows netbios and windows networking uses ports
rpc 135
netbios ns 137
netbios 138
netbios ssn 139
any or a combination of them all. Do note opening these ports in a firewall that is protecting a local LAN from a WAN (internet) is very RISKY as many exploits also use these ports to find machines to crack....
thanks for the suggestion. my lan is protected by a router, so you might say i really don't need the internal firewalls, but i'm one of those "just to be safe" guys
anyways, i have tried opening the ports one by one and all at once...but still can't connect to workgroup...
