Kppp redundancy

I was previously using directly pppd to connect my modem on the web. All was fine but I decide to try a graphical client, i.e. Kppp. Some configuration works again and all was right. But I found two strange things :

- I need the 'resolv.conf' to be configured with DNS address of my provider when I run Kppp as normal user. This file could be empty if I was root. I don't know why, maybe where is a cache somewhere ?

- I configure Kppp with some informations as username, password, DNS address and so on, in fact everything necessary to connect. But Kppp still need of '/etc/ppp/pap-secret' and 'resolf conf'. why ? This way the pair username/password is duplicated in two places, in 'pap-secret' and in 'kppprc'. Why ?

I know that Kppp is simply a frontend for pppd but I don't know why there is such a redundancy with theses informations. I think I don't understand all the connection mechanisn and that I could simplify my config.

Thank for help about that,

Florent Lioult.
