kppp/pppd

I am having a problem with my modem, I think I know what I need to do, but I don't know how to do it.

I need to change the number of configuration requests that my computer sends to the isp.

I just don't know how to do it. I am new to linux and I am learning about the root commands, but I don't know how to change the options of the pppd.

Are you referring to lcp-max-configure? If so you can add it straight to the /etc/ppp/options file or bring up kppp, select "setup", edit (or add) an account, select "customize ppp arguments" and add it there.

pppd

when I try /etc/pppd/options it tells me that permission denied, and I am logged in as root. I don't know how to change it.

Have you tried doing it through kppp? I've never tried it because I don't have kppp but I think it would work.

kilimanjaro 07-24-2003 10:25 AM

The version of kppp I have doesn't have an option to do it.

I am using mandrake 9.1 and I have updated everything as of july 12.

I don't know what to say. I would have expected KPPP to have a Setup menu that you could use to add and modify accounts.

As for /etc/ppp/options you probably shouldn't putz with it if your using KPPP or some other dialer since they might replace it temporarily with a persoanlized versions.

How did you configure the dialup in the first place?

kilimanjaro 07-25-2003 12:29 AM

It has a setup, but not one that will allow me to change the configuration requests

ovf 07-25-2003 10:59 AM

So when you click on Setup does it bring up a window that has tabs like Accounts, Device, Modems, etc. and a New or Edit button?

kilimanjaro 07-25-2003 02:35 PM

yes, there are tabs for accounts, device, modem, graph and misc.

under the modem tab there a button for modem commands, but there doesn't seem to be any command there for the number of config requests, but maybe I just don't know what I am looking at.

I think what you want is the Edit button on the Account tab. That should bring up a window with a Customize PPPD Arguments button. Add the lcp config setting there. The modem tab would be for customizing settings that affect the operation of the modem at a lower level than LCP.
