KerberosOrLocalPasswd on SSH...what is meant???

in english and german I just found always the same sentence:
Code:

KerberosOrLocalPasswd[yes|no]                [DEFAULT=???]
If a kerberos authentication was failed, ...sshd is checking (if the option is set to "yes")....authorisation of the user by a local mechanism...

what is meant with this "local mechanism"???
thanks

If enabled, it means checking credentials using PAM.
