Question Kali 3.12 no iNET connectivity >> boot 3.7 >> connectivity = fine

Okay so I just wrote 3 pages and lost it. So this will be short. When I boot into Kali 3.12 (My primary updated OS from GRUB) my iNET connectivity is gone. It was fine, never had an issue.

When I boot into 3.7 from GRUB I can connect fine and there is no issue.

I believe the last package I installed/updated was the new release of VMware.

My box does have a wNIC but I never installed drivers or set it up to be used. Nor have I ever tried to use it.

Network man is showing I am conncted to my wireless router via wNIC. It also says my eth0 has never been used.

I tried disabling wireless, no go.
Ping says the network is unreachable.

I'm guessing that my NIC is bridged somehow or way, but am not sure.

Your help is GREATLY appreciated.

I will acquire and post any log or information needed. When I get someone to lend a hand I will boot into 3.12 and use a tablet to connect to the message board to move forward with the help.

Thanks again,
b0ston.

When I boot into Kali 3.12
there is NO operating system called that
Now there is the current version of Kali for 64 bit amd/intel cpu's
kali-linux-1.0.6-amd64

??
so you installed VMware IN kali
so kali is RUNNING the vm?

so what OS are you trying to run in the VM on kali host

is this the HOST kali or this unknown os in the vm on the kali host ?

and WHY even use kali to host a VM ????

kail is a very special purpose OS
one designed BY network security EXPERTS to be used BY COMPUTER SECURITY EXPERTS

lol,

Okay so to start...

GRUB labels the OS by kernel version if I remember correctly. So when I refer to 3.12 I was simply informing you of boot local from GRUB.

I have '2' "versions" of Kali installed (64bit). (The original install, and the updated)

#1 3.7 (older, again assuming this is the kerel #)
#2 3.12 (newer, again assuming this is the kerel #)

Let's remove the VM out of the equation all together. I was simply providing information for the last installed/updated package.

Network Manager shows an eth0 but never used and a connected wireless connection on the NEWER version of Kali.
>>No connectivity

Network Manager shows a connected eth0 connection and NO wireless device at all on the OLDER version of Kali.
>>Connectivity is fine.

when I check the interfaces config file from the OLDER version (I'm on now) it shows this:

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Now I'm assuming it would and will be different when I boot the NEWER version. (Same user account)

More info (OLDER):
uname -a
Linux h0st 3.7-trunk-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.7.2-0+kali8 x86_64 GNU/Linux
cat /proc/version
Linux version 3.7-trunk-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.7.2 (Debian 4.7.2-5) ) #1 SMP Debian 3.7.2-0+kali8

Okay not really sure what happened but after running:

cat /etc/network/interfaces
lspci
dpkg -l | grep network

from the OLDER version I booted to the NEWER version and my iNET is now working. Wish I knew why.

Thank you for trying to help,
b0ston.
