Well as i said, i managed to kill SuSE by trying to install slackware 10. It affected konqueror, Mozilla(firefox), aMSN and kopete thats all i bothered to try. Very occasionally it would let you onto some sites maybe 1 in 40 times (just a guess, it was very low anyway)
Ok, just reinstall (format) to make sure. I use KNOPPIX and have no problem to connect through a router.
Sorry pete123, I can't help you further. I even myself have problems that I can't solve. I let it like that and use the other OS if I have another thing to do...:-(
Unfortunately, all those forums don't really help me except , sometimes, little stuffs...
OK. I have reinstalled 3 times (SuSE) nothing, then went to try slackware 10 which messed it all up. Just tryed it with a windows laptop and for some reason it all works on the same config that was on when SuSE was installed.??
All i can see is that the problem is to do with the router (Dlink G604t) as it works with others that have been restored to factory defaults. When i manage to get another distro to install if i remember ill post whatever happens here. If anyone else has got this to work with SuSE any advice would be good.
thanks bendeg for all your quick responses
warnesey333 you got anywhere (if youre still reading this thread?)
Ok , for anyone else with this router (G604t maybe others) and suse linux, to get the router to get you onto the internet you have to upgrade it to the latest firmware then on the DHCP config page set the DNS to the DNS server provided by your ISP (so its not 192.168.1.1). This seems to work. just upgraded to SuSE 9.1 FTP install..all seems to be good
