This is a continuation of an
older thread from last year. I want to sign up for a home dsl account, but the registration page seems to have a Java applet that doesn't work on Linux. I'm using Firefox 1.5.0, and Java is enabled. Last winter, I gave up on registering and canceled the dsl account, but now my current ISP is going out of business, so I have no choice. If I can't set up an internet connection with Linux, I'll probably wind up buying a new machine with Windows installed on it.
Here's what happened when I tried to register for the dsl service:
- Firefox brings up the ISP's registration page.
- There's a vertical scroll bar for the "Terms of Service" text widget, but no scroll bar at all for the page, even though the page is both too wide and too tall for the screen.
- I had to use the page-down button to get to the "Accept" button.
- I click "Accept".
- The Member ID page comes up.
- Top of form says this:
<%@page language="java" errorPage="SystemError.jsp" %>
- I fill in my phone #, click Next.
- It doesn't work. The button doesn't change, and nothing happens.
- The modem's ACTIVITY light may have started blinking once every few seconds, but that's all.
