Issue connecting from Windows 2000..

I've got an issue connecting to Linux from Windows 2000 (192.168.2.2) on a local network. I've got the following configuration file, & I'd be grateful for insights on if I'm overlooking the obvious, if on its own this is incomplete, etc.:

# Samba config file created using SWAT
# from localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1)
# Date: 2003/09/22 18:18:10

# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = LAN
netbios name = FENRIR
server string = %v
encrypt passwords = Yes
obey pam restrictions = Yes
pam password change = Yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *New*password* %n\n *Retype*new*password* %n\n *passwd:*all*authentication*tokens*updated*successfully*
unix password sync = Yes
log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log
max log size = 0
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
dns proxy = No
hosts allow = 192.168.2.2
printing = lprng

[homes]
comment = Home Directories
valid users = %S
read only = No
create mask = 0664
directory mask = 0775
browseable = No

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/spool/samba
printable = Yes
browseable = No

[/home/oeln]

path = /home/oeln

Thank you,
- Oeln

What hapens when you try to connect?

Have you added users using smbadduser or smbpasswd?

Also check that you don;t have any firewall rules in place:
iptables -L

What distro are you using?

I had the same problem, until I changed the smb.conf entries as follows:-

workgroup = WORKGROUP
netbios name = localhost

workgroup is the W2K workgroup name (in my case WORKGROUP). The commented header at the top of your file indicates that your localhost is "localhost".

Hope this works!

I had a lot of trouble with Samba too- I actually can't even run swat for some reason, but I don't car about that. My internal network is (server) 192.168.1.1 and (Win2K) 192.168.1.2 . That all works fine, but make sure the samba password & username match that on the windows machine. The strange thing is that I actually changed the workgroup to "workgroup" and in my network places windows still shows "mygroup" for the server. Hope this helps out, and is not too confusing!
