Question ISP Sharing

Ok, first post, here goes:

My office contains the following:
-Windows XP SP2 desktop
-SuSE LINUX laptop
-5-Port Switch

Ok, my XP computer gets its internet connection wirelessly (802.11g), and the adapter is plugged into the USB port, leaving my ethernet port free. I ran a cable from the XP computer's ethernet port to the 5-port switch.

My Linux laptop was orriginally Win2K, but i wiped that, and installed SuSE LINUX on it instead, There is a network card, so i ran a CAT-5 Cable from the laptop to the switch as well.

I've been trying to get the two to share an internet connection for a while now with no luck, and i was wondering if anyone could help me out with maunally configuring what IP Addresses go where.

I'm confused at your message. For internet sharing on a linux computer, get dhcpd and firestarter, you will need iptables too.

I'm confused by what you have posted. FIrst off, the XP system. You said "XP computer gets its internet connection wirelessly (802.11g)". What is this connecting to wirelessly? Is it the 5 port switch? If yes, and this is talking to the internet, this is more than a switch, it has to be a wirless router. If not, what is it connecting to?

It would help a lot if you posted the make and model of the switch ( or what ever it is ).

If XP is working now, you could look at its configuration. By default it is probably set for DHCP ( your wireless access point is serving up the addresses ). If not, it means it has been set manually. Please post any information you can find out from XP.

if the switch is really just a switch and the internet goes directly into the winXp computer, the first step is to ensure that XP has internet sharing on - and then from there, on the linux computers you should be able to just use dhcp... without more details though...

You need to configure XP for Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). You can find lots of info by googling and looking at the windows ICS help files. XP has a built in DHCP server and the ethernet port will be automatically configured with a fixed IP address of 192.168.0.1. Configure the laptop for DHCP and set the gateway for 192.168.0.1.
