Is there an internet activity log in Fedora 6?

Hi,

I need to check if one of my Fedora 6 servers is connecting to the internet of its own accord. Is there some kind of log file somewhere?

Basically, the server is on a premises without ADSL or other fixed rate broadband connection, and seems to have been using an ISDN gateway to go online. The most recent phone bill was around 450 euro for one month...

One of my own scripts connects at around 1am to check for an update, and that's fine. But I need to know if anything else is connecting for any reason. Like package updates etc...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi,

sure you can do that using iptables by inverse logging to the internal or LAN ip/subnet.
example using 1 interface :
iptables -A OUTPUT -s <your_IP> ! -d <LAN_ip_subnet> -j LOG --log-level 5 --log-prefix <description>

more specific - you can LOG matching process owner etc.
$man iptables
