is there a special version of samba for bestlinux?

went through step by step installation for samba and i am stuck on the smb.conf file it does not allow me to create it in the directory it needs to be in! I am using bestlinux and cant seem to find any documentation on which version of samba I should be using? or are they all universal and I am just using the wrong documentation to config the smb.config file? I should be able to create the smb.config file correct? and put it in its default directory? /usr/local/samba/bin

Samba is pretty generic among all flavours of Unix, let along Linux so you should be good with the version you have.... As for smb.conf, its normally found as /etc/smb.conf but you can set it to be else where. You say you cannot create the file - what user are you logged on as? How are you trying to create the file??
