Is it possible to run the interfaces file after modifying?

Dear,

I change the interfaces file to activate the DHCP service for my eth0.

How do I make the service active without booting the system. In other word, how do I run the modified interfaces file?

Hi,

If you want adequate answers to your questions, then it's always a good idea to include what distro and version you are using for general use questions. If your questions are specific to hardware or software you best include type, model, make and so on.

If all you need is to restart the network service then you could try this:
Code:
service network restart (as root or with sudo for non-root)
service networking restart (as root or with sudo for non-root)
/etc/init.d/network restart (as root or with sudo for non-root)
/etc/init.d/networking restart (as root or with sudo for non-root)
One or two of the commands above might just work for your distro (since we don't know what it is, it's hard to say)

Kind regards,

Eric

I think a simple
Code:
ifdown eth0
ifup eth0
should be working. No need to restart the whole network.
