Is it possible to adjust NAT settings so one external address is allowed onto LAN

This is my problem:

I have a broadband LAN setup at home. My sister in law has a broadband pc at there house with a fixed IP address, from a different ISP. I wanted to adjust our asdl router so that when she goes online, she can connect to our Lan automatically - without authenitcation. - So it would be just like her PC was in another room in our house.

I read that one solution is to make an entry in the router settings - but I'm not sure what setting to change. Someone said all i need to do is to add her address to the NAT table of the router and any connection from that external address will look like its coming from the LAN.

I desperately need to get this setup this weekend.

Can you give me some help here please

If you gave us a link to your router / firewall's (preferably PDF) userguide / manual, I expect we'll be able to help you with the details.
Welcome to LQ!

More Info
This product has multiple versions. Please make sure that you download the manual for your version of the product. You will find the version number on a sticker on the bottom of the unit, it is a 4-digit number preceeded by ver. For the purpose of a manual, only the first digit of the version number is important.

So, which one is yours?

When your Sister in law gets through your Belkin Router and on to your LAN, What do you want her to be able to do?
Do you have a Linux server you want her to log in for file and Printer Sharing?
The Experts here will probably want to know what Kind of server and what Operating System.
Do you have an Apache Server that you want her to browse?

Hope you get it going in time for the weekend!

I took a look at those manuals - they are pretty much all the same. Firewall is configured on Page 55.

Unlike my Netgear DG834G, your Belkin router doesn't have built-in support for a VPN (Virtual Private Network) which is what I think you'll need if "it would be just like her PC was in another room in our house."

So I suggest you search for openvpn and linux

But here are some links to help you understand what openvpn is all about:

http://www.linux.com/feature/58336

Be aware that opening any port(s) in your firewall is a potential security risk. You need to read up on setting up ssh connections, public/private key authentication for ssh, disabling root logins via ssh, disabling username & password logins for ssh (only allow key-based authentication) etc. and test this from your LAN before you open any ports on your firewall.

Have fun!
