iptables not allowing domain connection

I have gotten my samba server up and running. The problem is my "firewall" iptables. If it is enabled, I cannot connect to the domain. With is disabled, I connect to the domain but, internet connection sharing will not work.

I would prefer to use iptables but need some info on how to fix my problem. Please make it in plain English as I am an extreme to linux. I am using Mandrake 9.1 I think the configuration for iptables is under the security settings of mandrake control center.

Man, I feel like I have been cramming for finals all week getting this thing going. I have searched this site extensively and not found my answer. This is a first as 99.9% of my searches have been very fruitfull.

Thanks

BTW I will be out of town from Tuesday thru Saturday so if I don't thank you quickly that is why.

Wndoze needs 4 open ports, 137&138 udp, 139&445 tcp.

So long as these are open to the local network, it should be visible and able to be connected to.

To view your active rules on the screen, type iptables-save

Ok, I simple

Do you know where Mandrake 9.1 hides the iptables? doing a file search I have found /etc/rc.d/init.d/iptables

I added to the lines of the port 445(using kwrite), saved it, and still not working.

I have done a search here for iptable and shorewall. They both sound great and powerfull if you can manipulate them.

I tried playing with fwbuilder. I prefer text base, I see what I am doing. With GUI it did it, but what did it do?

Again please use the KISS method (keep it simple for stupid) I am a linux newby. I like to think I have a good working knowledge of networking and computers but perhaps I should re-think this.
