iptables issue

I'm am fairly new to Linux so i need some help. I am making changes to the iptables to open ports. I am using iptables because the GUI firewall agent in redhat 8.0 doesnt work well.

My problem is that when add a new chain it goes in fine, I also reference it to the INPUT chain but as soon as I shutdown or restart all the changes I have made are gone.

What do i need to do to keep the changes i make to iptables perminate?

How about something like below. You may need to stop iptable first with the command: service iptables stop
then..
Type: iptables-save > /etc/sysconfig/iptables
Run the command: service iptables restart
