IPP to PrintServer: server-error-version-not-supported

I'm using SuSE Linux 8.2 and CUPS 1.1.18. Trying to connect via IPP to a Linksys PPS1UW PrintServer, with a USB printer attached., but getting the error: server-error-version-not-supported (0x503)

This is an out-of-the-box install of SuSE. I successfully setup and used this PrintServer/printer through Windows XP using the URI on my local network of h t t p://172.16.1.36:631/ipp/P1

I'm trying to get more info on the problem, but this error is not anywhere in /var/log/cups. /var/log/YaST2 simply shows:
2003-08-02 11:14:25 <3> linux(4572) [agent-cups] CupsCalls.cc(remoteDestinationsThread):688 cupsDoRequest error: server-error-version-not-supported

I'm using the GUI to add the printer. Tried KDE Print and YaST. In the case of YaST the test button gives this error. In the case of KDE Print, the network scan finds the server and printer but the error comes when selecting the printer.

What other logs might tell the supported versions on either side (CUPS vs Linksys)? Can I turn off strong version checking so that the different versions will work together? Does CUPS 1.1.18 implement IPP 1.0 or 1.1?

Thanks,
Curt
