IPCop under VMWare
 

Hi,
I'd like to run IPCop under VMWare but was curious how the host os, SUSE, would react to all the installed NICs. Would I need to disable them somehow?

how do you "react"? both machines will physically recieve their data via the same NIC on the box (unless you somehow do this in a different way which i've not seen outside of ESX Server) and the host os would then bridge the network into VMware. so Ssue needs to see both the physical and virtual nic's

I was concerned that during bootup SUSE would find 4 NICs (not knowing that 3 will be for a VM)and not know how to handle them. I didn't know if I had to 'blind' those 3 extras NICS to the host to prevent confusion.
Linux networking,to me, can be a challenge- 4 NICs seems daunting.

the nic's do show up, but are only created when the vmware service is available, and are not listed as ethX devices, but brX, i.e. a bridge interface, and won't be createed until the local host os ethernet networking is sorted. essentially just ignore them and they will ignore you :)
