ipchains not working?

Hello,
I'm trying to make a Wireless Router out of my laptop with PCMCIA PRISM2.5 card. (802.11b)
I have Libranet on here, very similar to debian..
Using the following site for instructions:
http://larve.net/people/hugo/2000/10/wireless-lan
At the moment, trying to run ipchains gives me:
root@Zbx:~# /sbin/ipchains -P forward DENY
ipchains: Protocol not available
I get the same result with the other command that is asked to be typed..
Does anyone know how I can fix this? Or some other way to make a wireless LAN router?
Also, if this laptop accesses the net through DHCP and another router, will I be able to follow the instructions on the site and get it working?
Thanks.

Are you sure that ipchains is supported in your version of libranet? Most distros are using iptables and many are dropping support for ipchains entirely.

The syntax of both ipchains and iptables is very similar and they function similarly as well. So you should just be able to take the rules from your ipchains HOWTO and translate them to iptables. For the rule you posted, it would look like this in iptables:

/sbin/iptables -P FORWARD DROP

You can take a look at the netfilter website to get an idea of the syntax differences. Here are a couple of the HOWTOs that might be useful:
