ip scanner for linux


I have been searching the net for finding a software which can scan

the entire network(which i may specify the range) and find the files

which r shared.I want both the files frm windows servers n linux

servers.I want a software similar to netscan in windows...
I am using edubuntu with GNOME.

I will be glad if neone point to me this one r some thing related

Take a look at nmap. It's very likely that its already included in your distribution.

IP scanner? NMAP FTW!!

By far the most commonly used, most robust, and most features program out there for this is nmap, as mentioned above, can I also recommend amap, which is almost an addon for nmap. Im sure I don't have to explain what it does, google = valuable resource... =)
