IP addy changed, which files do I edit?

Hi all,

*Sigh* I had a thread asking this same questions a few years ago, but dammed if I can find it.

I have a server behind a Comcast connection. Periodically, they change my IP address, and have done it again. I can never remember which files to edit.

I run sendmail, apache, bind, etc...

I've changed all the necessary files in /var/named, /etc/mail/relay-domains, and have restarted the services.

I also notified my registrar (as I always have to do) of the IP addy change in DNS.

I realize that it can take up to 72 hours to propegate, but it never actually has, and at any rate, I'm in day 4 now.

Have I possibly missed a config file or two?

I ask because e-mail and website are dead...

Thanks,

Chris

Hi,

since you didn't say which system this is for I'll assume is one in yr distro list.

For Redhat,
You need:
system IP info is : /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth{interface-number}

For Solaris.
check (you should only need /etc/hosts) if the only thing thats changed is the ip addy.
/etc/netmasks
/etc/hostname.{interface}
/etc/hosts
/etc/defaultroute

Applications.
Sendmail - Sorry can't help you here don't and never have run it.
Apache : Normally Binds to the default interfaces (any it can find) but check /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
SSH ? : check /etc/ssh/sshd_config again check interface bindings.
Named : /etc/named.conf

Thats all I can think of that the mo.
Have you tried remote nslookup to ensure that DNS has fully updated with the correct IP ?
Remotely have u tried telnet {your IP} 25
and then telnet {domainname} 25

Hope this helps anyway.
