Internship Project SuSe 9.2 Help... Email Server Setup.

I am currently finishing my Internship Project for my degree and I need to setup the following.

SuSe Linux 9.2 (Installed Already)
Apache (Installed Already)
SSH
POP3 Email Server (IMAP is the package name I installed)
Fax Server (HylaFax)
Remote Backup Package
ZOPE

I also need to learn how to use a compiler for a car navigation program.

I have the OS installed and running. Apache is running. I can access the internet through my DSL connection and my router. I've been working on this for 3 weeks and can't seem to figure the rest out.....Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what sort of help do you expect to recieve?

"how to make it all work" really isn't an answerable request.

I don't expect a walk through...I just need some help to point me in the right direction. I have the Fax package (Hylafax) running but can't figure out how to run the modem setup. It's an internal modem and it's asking me what serial port the modem is on...

Confused, this is for an internship at a company? What's your major.. I hope it is not networking

Why are they letting you do any of this as you have no idea what you are doing

This is for my associates degree in Information Technology. I currently have a job managing a Windows network myself. I set it up from scratch. It runs fine. This is something I choose to do because I wanted to learn Linux because they don't offer a class for it. I took networking classes and I understand that. I'm just having a hard time adjusting to the file system and how to navigate my way around to configure different things.

My boss at my internship told me to post here if I had any questions or got stuck. I just wanted someone to point me in a direction (e.g. Website, Reference Documentation...) that would get the ball rolling again for me.

I installed linux, configured Apache, Setup the NIC, Setup Internet Access with my DSL connection, router and windows machine.

I heard a lot of great things about this community, but no one seems to want to help. I'm not looking for the answer or even a hint. Just point me in a direction that will help me learn more about what I'm doing. I like to learn new things and be challenged, but sometimes I get stuck. That's why I'm here posting.

i'm sure your boss meant "post here if you get stuck at a particular point and provide details about what exactly is causing you problems and what you've already tried to do to resolve them"

we can't help on such a vague request... would you expect a car mechanic to be able to tell you what's wrong with a car that "isn't like it normally is" ? please understand we need you to help yourself before we can help you...

I'm not sure what exactly you're asking either.... but if I had to have someone learn linux and tell them what resources to use....

there are a lot of sites out there that provide tutorials - yolinux.com, for example. if you're looking for a specific subject include "howto" or "how to" in your google search.

There are three main IMAP servers - Cyrus, Courier, and U Washington - each has their own characteristics - you probably have u-wash as your default, so do a google on imap howto and see what you find.

IBM provides a huge amount of information at their Redbooks site - http://www.redbooks.ibm.com - search on linux there and you'll probably be overwhelmed.

www.samba.org - Samba 3 by Example - how to step by step on setting up file and print using samba.

Probably the most difficult thing, or not necessarily difficult, but a necessity is understanding authentication and linux. difficult because there are so many options. I'm still looking for a darned good tutorial on that because I have to train other people in our office,, and my customers! <G>

Thanks for the info, that's all I was looking for. I still don't fully understand the Linux OS. The compiler is probably the most complicated thing I've tried to do on my own. I tried to compile a package and ended up crashing the PC.

I thought IMAP was the mail server application, but from what I understand now is that it's a protocol like POP3 or SMTP. I will have to go back and actually install cyrus or one of the others. I don't completely understand the Linux terminology yet so it's hard for me to get my problems and questions across.
