Hi,
The way to connect depends on your connection. If it's modem connection you can use pppd directly or any text dialer like dia.
It would be easier to answer if you can write more about your connection.
I'm not sure, but I think it needs dialling, right?
Look if your /etc/ppp/pap-secrets look correct (right user name, passowrd) and you may just try with
pppd
You should create a routing table which defines the interface which should be triggered. If you're dialup works with dynamic IP adresses you should also modify your if-up scripts so it flushes the routing table and reads it again from the file static-routes.
