internet trouble - only some pages load & slow

Hi. New to linux. Using Konqueror, I can connect to i.net, but only to certain pages, (like this one). For example, always get timeout error if I try to go to google.com. The pages I can get to load very slowly. I have a 1.5 Mbps dsl line. I am running and intel machine with SuSe 9.1 personal edition. Any help greatly appreciated.

I hope someone at least understands my possibly vague question....

same/similar problem

I'm having a very similar problem on Suse 9.3, pages load extremely slow. I checked using ethtool and my card is running in full duplex mode (tried half, didn't make any difference) at a 100mbps connection speed. I used nslookup and it quickly resolves dns for many sites, but in firefox or konq the pages will not load, or if they do it's wicked slow. I saw on another post here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...postid=1569005
that it could be a problem because other network devices are present. I have an unused wireless card and a second unused built in ethernet port on the motherboard on the system, but it doesn't seem either of these should matter since they aren't in use. Also, I can't remove the other ethernet port since both are built on to the mobo (nforce2). I disabled the firewall to make sure it wasn't the problem, also didn't help.
ruely do you have other network cards on the computer? Any other advice anyone?
Thanks!

Nothing other than my 56k modem. I am connected to a dsl router via ethernet. Pretty simple setup. One curious thing is that now, I can connect to certian pages, and they load up normal speed, but for others, no connection at all. Like google.com or hotmail.com. Can't download Mozilla from web either, although I can get to their site, just fine. I was just about to upgrade to 9.3 to see if that would fix the issue, but from what you say, could be the same scenario. I'll let you know what I figure out, if anything....

let me know, mine is still very slow but changing the firewall settings for me seemed to make more pages load (google didn't load before, then after disabling the firewall it did). jet
