OK Your test sounds like it could be fair...

Sounds like you have a configuration problem with your Linux setup. I don't know about Aurox, unfortunately, have you tried any other distributions? Did you get the same effect?

Not yet. I'll probably try Knoppix or some other distribution bootable from CD.

hold your fire

In the Linux flavors I run Mozzilla, Kconquerer, and Opera. The download and pageload speed varies between these also. (And the distro as well.) Anyway my idea is that Linux can be tweaked to speed up download and pageload. I notice when watching the graphic of the download or pageload that there is a lot of extremes. Kinda like pumping. The idea is to get an even flow. That's where the tweaking comes in. But how, where, why...

Thumbs up update

Been running MEPIS 10. and Alt-Linux jr 2.2 last few days. I find MEPIS to be as fast at downloading and page loading as windows. Alt-Linux is nearly as fast. So there is a way to tweak Linux. Sooner or later we shall find out.
