Internet sharing via linux box on ASDL problem

Hi

I am not a linux programmer and have very little exp on it. I do have a problem with a linux box however that a IT provider set up for me.

EQUIPMENT : ADSL line with ethernet modem supplied by telecom provider connected to a LINUX server running REDHAT (probably the lates version)The server handles fetchmail , sendmail and manage the connection to the adsl line.

Connected to the Linux box is a ethernet hub that provides connection to 5 pc's running 98 or XP

90% of the time everything runs 100% , email and surfing, sometime's the following problems occur.

THE PROBLEM:

1)Sometimes when trying to retieve a URL I get the following :
ERROR THE REQUESTED URL COULD NOT BE RETRIEVED
NO CONNECTION
If I press REFRESH 99% of the time the page will be retrieved
without any problem

2) On a secure banking site when entering a password to log on
I get no response (no reply after entering password and pressing enter) 1 or 2 out of ten attemps I get a response immediately and continue to the next page

3)Every few days the connection will die , if a reset the modem
and the linux box , reboot the connection is up and running again.

----------------------

The IT company can not come up with a explanation, they Reinstalled the whole server and set it up again bu it is still
the same.

What I do know is that the telecommunication comapny chage the ip addrewss onece every 24 hours forsecurity reasons but I can not see that that could be the problem.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

try to not use your external ip adress in your iptable rules,..use interfaces,.. That saves a hassle with dhcp,

Also banking uses ssl thats port 443

I also found problems running a fileserver on your router, meaning when different filetransfers are running, webtraffic may strugle.

Goodluck
