hi guys!! any body wanna help a noob? anyway, i got a problem letting my xandros share its internet connection.. see, i am in the process of setting up my network using xandros on my workstations and server.. i intend to use the server as a gateway for the workstations.. the thing is, i can't seem to get it to share its internet connection.. i have already tried setting my two NICs on my server machine to use dhcp but still it doesn't work.. i've also tried setting eth1 to have a static ip and also set the workstations to use my server machine's static ip as the gateway.. im losing a lot of hair over this.. pls help
You probably want to share your either dynamic IP or single static IP connection.
This being the case, you will need a NAT router set up on your gateway/server machine.
DHCP is a way of distributing IPs but only IPs, it won't do the routing for you. You will need to make your server/gateway box into a NAT router and of course firewall. As I don't use Xandros, I don't know how to help you, how you can do this within Xandros.
Have a look at other posts on this forum regarding NAT firewall and maybe you will start to understand what you need to get done, then hopefully you will be able to find the solution within Xandros.
To Internet share you need to install ip-masquerade and you can find details about this here . Forwarding the requests is covered in this howto. Once you have that setup then assign an ip address to the card (eth1) to which the other boxes are connected. For the boxes using this as the connection assign their gateway address as the ip address of eth1 on the Xandros box.
