Unhappy Internet sharing on Networked PCs running SuSE 9.0 (Pro)

We can't seem to get our internet working on both computers. Both of us have dual boot Win2000 and SuSE 9.0 Pro. My computer is the one that connects to the internet, acting as the server. I can connect to the internet fine when running either system, but my friend can only get the internet (on win and linux) when i'm running windows.

why can't we both get the internet on Linux at the same time??!!

Can some one help? Please.......?!

A router should fix that problem.

Unhappy Internet gone missing

I spoke to a friend, and he mentioned something about network address translation and IP masquerading!! It all sounds a bit complecated!! I've tried following a tutorial, but it didn't work

Does know how do do it??!

Surely a router isn't needed just for two computers?! This wasn't necessary before......

A router is not required. I use a DI-604 and I only paid $40. It has a built in firewall and therefore I do not need a software firewall on any of my computers. The router paid for itself.

To connect 2 computers, you do need a cross-over cable. This is not the normal straight through cables that are sold in stores. I pieced one together from a straight through cable. The connections are listed on the internet. Google > enter cross over cable connections.

When I tried to use internet sharing with Windows software, I had problems getting it to work in Win98se and WinME. I had to resort to proxy server to accomplish it. You have to configure it as well as your two computers.
