Has anyone successfully installed any version of Internet
Explorer on any version of Linux, using wine?
I'm running SuSE Linux, and just upgrade to the latest 8.2
version...
I was using VMWare to run a Windows 2000 Virtual Server...
I only used the Windows box to collect mail, create Word
documents, and connect to my place of work, via a secure
tunnel, then connect to my work PC using PC Anywhere...
I still have a need to connect to my place of work using the
PC Anywhere...
I attempted to install PC Anywhere under wine, but was told
that I needed to install Internet Explorer, version 4.1 or
newer, to complete the PC Anywhere installation...
I really don't want to use Microsoft products any more than
I have to, but I'm stuck, as I'm required to work with MS
products at work...
Any help in installing IE 4.1 or newer, or help in
installing PC Anywhere under wine, would be much appreciated...
internet explorer is mandatory if u want to use M$ Office. I've installed MS Office 2000 on my laptop so I can get email from our team's functional mailboxes in an M$ Exchange server.
Codeweaver's CrossOver office works fine on my RHL 9 install and internet explorer runs ok.
one thing is good to know - u won't restart ur machine if MS outlook crashes. he he he.

Yes, I have IE 5.5 running on Redhat 7.2 - 8 (all updates installed). The main thing I had to do to get IE running with wine is to make sure wine worked per instructions from the wine website and I had to change the wine config file to emulate win98 and not win95. I simply ran wine ie5setup.exe and let it do its thing.
Not to start any type of wars, but I HAD to install ie in order to access one of my vendors web sites that use java applications during the order process. Even though konqueror (my personal favorite) and mozilla (2nd favorite) could access the web sites, I couldn't place any orders without ie (even with jre installed and working under both konqueror and mozilla, they react very strangly to my vendor websites.....and since less than 5% of their customers use Linux....they are in no hurry to correct for cross platform compat).
