Question Internet Dropping Problem

I have home broadband and my net connection seems drop very often. It used to work before, no recent changes were made to PC. When I load via Live CD, my router config page loads up when I enter its ISP. However, it doesn't load when I run a HD installed OS. (I Use Debian which is a Knoppix HD install).

Upon shut down of the Hard Drive OS, it gives an error message: unable to read /etc/network/interfaces

Also, I tried to go into networking and in Control
Center and tried to enable eth0, but always fail to do so, it always has an X on it and says disabled.

So, to get net for now I use PPPoE config everytime I start my PC, even then it drops after some time. Seems to be happening more frequently of late. This path basically by passes the router.

Here is my /etc/network/interfaces:
# /etc/network/interfaces -- configuration file for ifup(8), ifdown(8)

# The loopback interface
# automatically added when upgrading
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto dsl-provider
iface dsl-provider inet ppp
provider dsl-provider

auto eth0

iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto eth0

iface eth0 inet manual

auto eth0

iface eth0 inet manual

vijay@box:~$

Permissions seem ok for that file.

vijay@box:~$ ls -l /etc/network
total 12

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 176 May 4 2006 if-post-down.d
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 240 May 4 2006 if-pre-up.d

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 45 May 11 2001 options
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 72 Jan 22 19:25 run

Even if I boot via live CD and the router is detected well, still the connection seems to drop.

Any solutions welcome.

I checked from Live CD. Correct file looks like below.

# /etc/network/interfaces -- configuration file for ifup(8), ifdown(8)

# The loopback interface
# automatically added when upgrading
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

Edited my file to appear as above. Still no progress.

Also on boot says
/etc/network/options is deprecated
here is this file from my PC:
vijay@box:~$ cat /etc/network/options
ip_forward=no
spoofprotect=yes
syncookies=no

This problem was solved recently. I was using the wrong adapter(A) with my modem. This A gave only 9V while 15V was needed. Also the amperes was much lesser. The wrong A belonged to an old cordless phone and looks in shape, color, size very close to the correct A. Accidentally when replugging I interchanged the two. It is important to mention that using an A with much higher voltage could have even caused a fire. With a lot of A's these days one needs to be extra careful not to interchange them and this is one more thing to watchout for.
