Internet connection sharing between linux and windows

I am having trouble sharing my internet connection from my linux computer to an Xp system, I have gone through network sharing wizard on linux and setting up a home network through Xp. I am not able to get connectivity on my Xp system. Also have attempted to configure samba to connect to the Xp system but still the Xp system is not able to connect to the internet.

Can the XP box ping the linux box?

If so, and you can't get internet, can it ping websites by IP?

If not, you need to set the linux box's IP as the XP's "gateway".

Was not successful

I attempted to ping the linux box, but it said "Destination host unreachable'' how do i go about setting my linux box as the default gateway. This is my first home networking undertaking with linux, so i am unsure of how to do some of this.

Try to read another thread, it seems that you have similar problems.

If you're getting that error message then the 2 machines aren't even networked properly yet, fixing that's the first priority.
