internet connection cannot be accessed from openSUSE(11.1)

Almost every documentation pages deals in configuring a network but not how to start the connection. i recently installed openSUSE (11.1) on my home pc. i have established an adsl connection through YaST2, but can i start the internet in order to browse the web.

I start my ADSL connection using kinternet. If I remember well, it is not installed by default in Opensuse 11.1. After installation you will find it in the K-menu under Applications --> Internet --> Internet Dial-Up. Once launched it will stay permanently in the panel: a single click on the icon and the system will be connected to internet.

What do you use a adsl modem connected to a ethernet card ?
Or are you using a dial modem ?
If you use a ethernet card you have to configure the ethernet card first

I am using adsl modem to connect. I have done all my configurations. I don't have any problem in that. The problem is how do i start the connection.

If you have done it correctly than if you boot up opensuse in the verbose mode than you will see the message "bringing up ethernet 0 " or something like that.
But if you use the modem for the first time you also have to configure you're modem too , because you provider has to know that is you who trying to internet .
In my case I start up a web browser give in the http field the IP adress of my modem and than it come up with a menu and than I can provide it with my internet account and password

still the connection could not be accessed. after clicking the icon. it happens as if there is no response from the program. the process is getting stuck to that point stays like that unless it is termonated externally..

If you right-click the kinternet icon in the system tray, you should see Interface (the dsl0 should be checked) and Provider (the name of your provider should be checked). If you have not correctly setup the ADSL connection in Yast --> Network Devices --> DSL, kinternet cannot pick them up.

You can also see the kinternet log, by right-click --> View Log. It should give you more information on what's happening and let you see at which point it hangs.
