Internet connection alert through squid proxy server
Hi,
We are using squid proxy server for Internet access and would like to know if there is any tool available to alert if Internet is down or up directly from the Server.
As long as you exclude the URI from caching you could use about any URI and tool to monitor HTTP requests ranging from a simple 'links -dump' or 'wget' to Monit or Nagios. IMHO "Internet being down or up" is rather crude considering what's involved ranging from b0rken ethernet card (HW) and failed updates or misconfiguration (SW) to misconfigured or failing telco stuff, any network routing errors, remote side failure (networking)...
